Our Prime Surgicare weight loss surgery team can attest to this fact, but a new scientific study of 51,000 bariatric patients has clinically proven it — people who keep their bariatric post-op check-ups lose more weight than those who don’t.
These office visits are comprised of far more than just the number you see on the scale. Your medical team needs to ensure that you are progressing mentally, emotionally and physically during the weight reduction phase of your bariatric program.
Why are your post-op appointments important?
Our bariatric team specializes in diagnosing and thwarting any potential barriers to your success, possibly before you see them coming. We also take special care to review your latest lab work and provide a safe and secure environment where you can talk about the weight loss journey and ask questions.
But if you aren’t here for your appointment, we can’t help.
The study found that many patients — up to 50% — don’t make or keep their bariatric follow-up appointments and, in turn, eventually suffer the consequences of diminished overall weight loss.
Some participants had three scheduled follow-up visits at 3, 6 and 12 months post-op (considered complete follow-up) compared to others who had only one or two follow-up visits (incomplete follow-up).
Researchers found that after one year, type 2 diabetes remission rates were 62 percent in the “complete follow-up” group, while the “incomplete follow-up” group had a remission rate of 57.5 percent. The complete follow-up group also had greater improvements reducing high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Prime Surgicare’s One-stop Comprehensive Bariatric Support Services
As part of our comprehensive Prime Surgicare Bariatric Success Program, we recommend at least 4 follow-up visits during the first year; every six months during the year after surgery; and once yearly thereafter.
After your weight loss surgery, the outcome is up to you and you alone. You can achieve an eventual “good” result, or you can potentially achieve a faster “outstanding” outcome. It all goes back to a discussion we had during your first office visit:
- You are in the driver’s seat of your weight loss.
- Your level of commitment to prioritizing your journey is up to you.
Are you ready to find out if a bariatric weight loss solution is right for you? We’ve laid the process out for you here.
