“I clearly remember my first office visit with Dr. Seun Sowemimo,” Marcus Muniz says with a laugh. “I was in his office for two hours, because I had 50 questions to ask.” Marcus says the doctor answered every question (although he had to step out a few times to stay on schedule with other patients).
The NJ Transit training instructor was referred to “Dr. Seun” by Dr. Amit Kharod, former chief of staff at CentraState Healthcare System in Freehold. “I saw him for a fairly serious hernia and he asked me if I had ever considered bariatric weight loss surgery,” says Marcus. Dr. Kharod advised him to make a bariatric consultation appointment with Dr. Seun.
At the time, the Monmouth County resident was living with obesity-related medical problems including high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea. He was wearing size 4X shirts and size 46 pants. After listening to Dr. Seun’s educational weight loss surgery webinar, the married father of two children had the sleeve gastrectomy surgery in April 2017.
“I never thought I would say this in a million years, but I’m addicted to working out at the gym,” the circuit training aficionado explains. “It gives me so much energy and keeps the weight coming off.”
A year since his “sleeve” weight loss surgery, Marcus now wears size 1X shirts and size 36 pants. His medical conditions have been significantly minimized now that he weighs 193 pounds.
“I told my wife she has a new husband after 19 years,” Marcus laughs. “I now weigh about 40 pounds less than when we first met.”
