First, the bad news.
New Jersey’s adult obesity rate has more than doubled in the past 20 years.
However, Garden State residents are among the least overweight in the nation, according to The State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America released in late 2016. New Jersey’s adult obesity rate is currently 25.6 percent, up from 17 percent in 2000 and 12.3 percent in 1995.
Louisiana has the highest adult obesity rate at 36.2 percent and Colorado has the lowest at 20.2 percent. Rates decreased in four states (Minnesota, Montana, New York and Ohio), increased in two (Kansas and Kentucky) and remained stable in the rest. While New Jersey is on the whole fitter than Pennsylvania (30 percent), it’s slightly fatter than New York (25 percent).
Do you suspect that you may be in the 25 percent obese category?
