Use the Pre-Holiday Season to Prepare for Surgery in Early 2018
Maybe you have attended one of our new patient seminars and performed your due diligence about the ins and outs of weight loss surgery. You’ve already tried other diet and exercise options, investigated the different bariatric procedures and ultimately decided to move forward in 2018.
We’d like to suggest that you come in for a consultation before the end of the year. Why? The weight loss surgery operation you may have in your future is performed after several pre-op steps are satisfactorily completed. And they can take some time. While this news may be a little frustrating, each step is designed with your health and safety in mind.

Preparing for Your Weight Loss Surgery
Once you and your Prime Surgicare bariatric surgeon agree you are a candidate for weight loss surgery, the journey begins!
But it’s going to take some time.
Most patients need to obtain these pre-op clearances to be approved for surgery. These steps are for your own protection to ensure your mind and body are up to the task of surgery, recovery and a 360-degree lifestyle change.
Depending on your medical insurer’s requirements, some of the pre-certifications may include:
- Pre-op Bariatric Dietitian Sessions (2-6 meetings)
- Psychological Evaluation by a Mental Health Professional
- Pulmonary Clearance
- Cardiac Clearance
- Endoscopy Procedure (performed by a Gastroenterologist)
- Formal Letter of Medical Necessity from your PCP
- Pre-Admission Hospital Testing
