The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that a whopping 33 percent (or 78.6 million) of the United States population is considered obese, with a BMI of 30 or higher. While this percentage qualifies obesity as a healthcare epidemic, it is still often viewed as more of a negative lifestyle choice or even a so-called ‘character weakness.’ This perception could not be more wrong.
