We’ve admired Gabourey Sidibe since her riveting breakout performance in the 2009 movie, Precious. Now a regular on the television program Empire, this talented 33-year-old actress was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, due to her significant obesity.
In her forthcoming book due out in May, This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare, she announced for the first time that she had bariatric weight loss surgery in May 2016. The 33-year-old revealed that her inspiration was the diabetes diagnosis that both she and her older brother received.
Famous people battle obesity too
In the memoir and recent media report, she says, “My surgeon said [the surgery] would limit my hunger and capacity to eat. My brain chemistry would change and I’d want to eat healthier. I’ll take it! My lifelong relationship with food had to change.”
Gabby says she is working one-on-one with a nutritionist and fitness trainer, a pre-and post-op bariatric strategy included in our Bariatric Success Program.
You can read more of Gabby’s story in the People.com article here.
