I must applaud our governor for taking charge of his obesity under the never-ending scrutiny of the public eye. Let’s face it–for those of us who have faced this disease, it’s one of the great challenges of our lives. But to be (morbidly) obese and a political leader who is known worldwide, I can only imagine what a challenge he is facing.
I was interviewed by the Asbury Park Press today about his bariatric weight loss procedure and will admit, while I understand he chose the least invasive bariatric option, it has obvious drawbacks.
Nonetheless, regardless of your political stance or personal view of his leadership of our state, he has taken a bold step toward improving his health, overcoming metabolic disease, and warding off obesity-related diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and sleep apnea.
I wish him all the very best and hope that he has the time and conviction to get the support and counseling he needs to take full advantage of a surgical weight loss solution.
