“When you have a physical job, carrying around too much weight makes you feel slow and chronically exhausted,” explains David Martir, a 33-year-old warehouse worker from Middlesex County. “I’m still a young guy and didn’t want to feel tied-down down by my weight anymore.”
Weighing 346 pounds, David was also battling weight-related diabetes and high blood pressure. His primary care doctor, Dr. Dewan Khan in Woodbridge, recommended he contact Prime Surgicare to discuss a surgical weight loss solution.
By losing the extra weight, he could also lessen or eliminate these and other obesity-related medical problems. David started by watching a bariatric webinar by Dr. Seun Sowemimo to find out more about the process and the different bariatric weight loss procedures.
“I met with Dr. Bennet Togbe for a private consultation and decided this was the solution I needed to get my health back on track,” David recalls. In October 2017, Dr. Togbe performed the gastric sleeve bariatric procedure for David, without complications.
“Mr. Martir has done all the hard work to get his health back on track,” says Dr. Togbe. “His dedication to dietary, exercise and lifestyle changes have transformed his life. I am happy to be a part of his success story. More power to him!”

12 Months after Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery
Since his VSG operation, David health and life have changed dramatically:
- He has lost 118 pounds
- Pant size is reduced from size 54 to 38
- No longer diabetic and takes no maintenance medication
- No longer has high blood pressure and takes no medication
And his social life has taken a turn for the better as well.
“I started seeing a really nice woman recently and enjoy being part of a couple,” he says with a smile. “It’s the little things that make life better — I’m not sweating all the time and feeling constantly out of breath.”
David says he can perform his job duties faster than he used to, which also makes him feel more productive and useful in the workplace. He also offers a compliment to his bariatric surgeon, “Dr. Togbe has been great—he’s very experienced and wants to do whatever it takes for me to be successful. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who is tired of being too heavy.”
