As a patient care assistant at Raritan Bay Medical Center, 42-year-old Jeffrey Walker passes the sign for the hospital’s Institute for Weight Loss every day en route to his job. For months, he contemplated signing up for the free Patient Information Seminars, but always decided against it. At 288 pounds, Jeffrey has always struggled with his weight, but he did not feel ‘ready’ to seek professional help.
He diligently tried to lose the weight on his own ─ he often exercised by going to the park or the gym, but he still could not shed the excess pounds. Jeffrey’s overnight work schedule was partly to blame. “With a backwards schedule, it was difficult for me to find a successful schedule to eat meals and work and at home,” says Jeffrey, “I would come home at 3 a.m. and eat whatever was easily accessible, which was usually junk food.” Read more…
