What 30 Mins of Cardio or Weight Training Will Do for You

Exercising 30 minutes daily, at least five days a week, will give you several health benefits for your effort. From promoting weight loss to keeping your weight steady, a combination of moderately intense cardio and resistance training (weight lifting) is a ticket to short-and long-term health.

Many people turn to teas or pills to boost their metabolism to burn more calories. But the best strategy to increase your calorie-burning rate is to exercise. Period.
 

 

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says that everyone should do some kind of moderately intensive exercise for 150 minutes per week. Sound like a lot of time? It’s only 30 minutes daily five days a week.

Weight training is also a terrific metabolism booster. But I recommend you work with a certified fitness trainer who can coach you about the weights that are best suited to your age, health status and fitness goals. Going it alone when it comes to lifting weights can leave you in pain — or worse — injured and unable to work-out at all.

Exercising for a short time most days can also help ward off disease, reduce stress and keep your weight in check. It also helps to emit certain hormones that can boost your mood.

I’m a busy bariatric surgeon, but I make time nearly every day for biking, lifting weights or taking a run around my neighborhood after work. It also gives me a significant energy boost that lasts far longer than a cup of coffee.
