The Gallbladder Center at Prime Surgicare

Professional Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgeon

Welcome to our surgical practice, where expertise meets compassionate care. As a board-certified, highly experienced laparoscopic surgeon, I specialize in minimally invasive gallbladder removal procedures, known as laparoscopic cholecystectomy. My mission is to provide effective, safe, and timely solutions for gallbladder-related issues, focusing on seamless recovery and optimized outcomes.

New Jersey board-certified laparoscopic gallbladder surgeon Dr. Seun Sowemimo has performed 2,000+ successful gallbladder surgeries since 2010.

Gallbladder removal is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures. A small organ located in the right upper abdomen under the liver stores some of the bile produced by the liver, which digests and absorbs the fats in the food we eat.

Gallstones sometimes form inside the gallbladder and block the outlet from while the bile is moved out, which can result in considerable pain. In some cases, the stones may move into the bile duct, causing jaundice or inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis).

New Jersey board-certified laparoscopic gallbladder surgeon Dr. Seun Sowemimo has performed 2,000+ successful gallbladder surgeries since 2010.

The pain typically starts after eating and may cause nausea, vomiting or bloating. Fever may or may not be present.

People who have severe symptoms from gallstones (usually diagnosed on an ultrasound) frequently have their gallbladder removed through a minimally invasive procedure called a laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

We understand the importance of trust when it comes to your health.

Dr. Sowemimo and our experienced medical team are here to ensure you receive the highest level of care, compassion, and expertise.

I met Dr. Sowemimo over 12 years ago for a gastric bypass. He was highly recommended and I knew why back then. He knows his field of study and how to explain it to a patient in laymen's terms. I felt very comfortable in having him do the surgery and have kept the weight off. Recently I went to him for my gall bladder and again he explained everything from why I need it to what is going to happen during the surgery. I have talked about him to all my friends and some have come to him for surgery. I highly recommend him if you a are looking for a doctor who is patient, caring, supportive, explain everything so you can understand, listen and support you 100% of the way before, during and after.

Multiple times over the years. When I started to have symptoms of gallbladder pain he was the first person I went to. I knew he would be there for me. Within 2 weeks my gallbladder is out and in 5 days with lots of walking, I am able to return to work. Dr Seun and his team in the office and the surgical center were amazing. Made me feel comfortable and calm.

My lucky stars led me to Dr Seun. He perfectly explained everything-what’s involved with the gall bladder surgery and recuperation and he put my mind at ease. He’s high class gentleman, very professional, pleasant and friendly. Considering I had 4 incisions on my stomach area, I did not have any pain. I was up and about day 2.

Why Choose Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgery?

If you’re experiencing painful gallstones, recurrent digestive discomfort, or complications such as jaundice or inflammation due to gallbladder disease, gallbladder removal could be the answer.

While open cholecystectomy is sometimes necessary in complex cases, laparoscopic surgery has revolutionized gallbladder removal by offering a minimally invasive approach.

I use specialized instruments and a small camera through tiny incisions, providing precise, effective care while minimizing scarring and significantly reducing recovery time.

What Are the Benefits of Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgery?

Symptoms Indicating Gallbladder Removal Might Be Necessary

Gallbladder issues can often go unnoticed until they become a pressing concern. Common symptoms include:

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, it may be time to consider a consultation.

As a specialist, I can determine whether gallstones, bile duct stones, or other conditions like biliary dyskinesia affect your health and recommend the best treatment options.

Gallbladder Removal Procedure

What to Expect

Laparoscopic gallbladder surgery typically lasts under an hour and is performed under general anesthesia. You’ll likely go home the same day and expect a quick recovery—most patients resume their usual activities within a week. I prioritize making this process as smooth as possible, offering personalized post-operative care instructions to ensure you recover comfortably and confidently.

Post-Surgery Care and Recovery

After surgery, you may notice some changes in digestion. It’s common to experience softer stools or minor bloating, especially when eating fatty foods. I advise patients to ease into a balanced diet, avoiding high-fat and highly spiced foods, and I’m here to help manage any lingering symptoms you might encounter.

A Life Without a Gallbladder

Living without a gallbladder is safe for the patient and you’ll quickly adjust with minor dietary changes. If you experience digestive changes like post-cholecystectomy syndrome, I provide ongoing support to help you adapt. I aim to empower you with the tools to manage any side effects so you can enjoy a healthy, active life post-surgery.

Our Assurance

Taking a step toward gallbladder surgery can feel daunting, but as an experienced laparoscopic surgeon, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

Whether you’re dealing with persistent symptoms or seeking expert advice, I’ll work closely with you to develop a plan tailored to your health and recovery goals.

In most cases, gallbladder surgery is performed on an outpatient basis—no hospitalization is required!
