Summer 2026 Bariatric Support Group Returns with Special Guest Speaker on Emotional Wellness and Weight Loss Success

Prime Surgicare invites bariatric patients, families and friends to reconnect for an evening of support, inspiration and honest conversation about the journey ahead.

For many bariatric patients, weight loss surgery is only the beginning of a lifelong transformation. Long-term success requires more than physical change. It also involves emotional resilience, healthy habits, accountability and support from others who understand the journey firsthand.

This summer, Dr. Seun Sowemimo, Medical Director and Founder of Prime Surgicare, is bringing patients back together for a new in-person Bariatric Support Group meeting designed to strengthen both body and mind. (We also offer a monthly online (Zoom) support group which is open to the bariatric community. It is held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:00 PM. (Email lauren@lbsnutritionllc.com for registration and Zoom custom access code).

The Summer 2026 Edition of the Prime Surgicare Bariatric Support Group will take place Wednesday, May 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Patients at every stage of the bariatric journey are encouraged to attend, along with supportive friends and family members.

Hosted by our staff bariatric dietitan, Lauren Carey, RD, of LBS Nutrition LLC, she will lead the group in an inspiring hour of support and education.

A Special Discussion on the Connection Between Mental and Physical Health

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., special guest speaker Susan Stein Berlin, M.Ed., LSW, will lead an important discussion titled:

“Your Healthy Mind: The First Step to a Healthy Body”

The presentation will focus on the emotional and psychological side of long-term wellness, including mindset, motivation, stress, relationships, self-image and sustainable lifestyle change after bariatric surgery.

Susan Stein Berlin is an experienced licensed social worker and educator who has spent decades helping individuals and families navigate personal growth, emotional wellness and life transitions.

Why Bariatric Support Groups Matter After Weight Loss Surgery

Research and clinical experience continue to show that patients who stay connected to a bariatric support community often feel more motivated, informed and emotionally supported throughout their weight loss journey.

Support group meetings can help patients:

  • Stay accountable to long-term health goals
  • Share real-life strategies for nutrition and exercise
  • Discuss emotional challenges after weight loss surgery
  • Learn how others navigate plateaus and setbacks
  • Build friendships with people who understand the experience
  • Feel encouraged during maintenance phases years after surgery

Whether someone recently underwent gastric sleeve surgery, gastric bypass surgery or is still considering bariatric surgery, attending support meetings can provide valuable perspective and reassurance.

An Evening Focused on Bariatric Support, Friendship and Inspiration

The Prime Surgicare Bariatric Support Group is designed to be welcoming, encouraging and judgment-free. Patients can listen, participate in discussions or simply reconnect with others who understand the unique challenges of weight loss and long-term health management.

As summer begins, this event offers an opportunity to reset goals, regain motivation and focus on overall wellness — physically and emotionally.
